Yo, Peabody here again.
Strikes me that with the weather so nice, it’s time for some housecleaning.
I live in the forums, mind you.
So, while dusting around here, I kept popping up in the middle of active threads and getting nearly run over by good ideas.
Thought I might share some of the more exciting threads I found.

Starting off with a debate about Adwords and company names. “I know nothing about the legalities of this, but hate to think this other company is making money by catching unwary visitors looking for us … almost seems like they’re trying to make money off our reputation.”

This one is about one of my favorite topics: gold in referrer logs. People search for the craziest things, and it’s fun to sift through and look for the little nuggets of realization. “It’s user centric. Bottom up, not top down.”

On the topic of mercy for those with poor eyesight, our intrepid leader weighs in with her usual brand of impassioned advice and solid research, this time about fonts, usability, and health risks: Fonts. Please, have a heart. Enlarge them. “My plug for accessbility is to think of your target user and then remember they may wear glasses or contacts. Millions of people rely on them to see. If your product descriptions are hard to see, chances are prospective customers will not struggle to read them.”

This one’s closer to my heart, since it concerns a possible neighbor for me: A tagline for the forums? Should we have a slogan? Let us know what you think. “To me, taglines serve an important purpose. It immediately ‘orients’ the new visitor and gives them a feel for what they’ve just clicked into. For the repeat visitor, it helps with branding.”

Another forum issue to highlight: the incomparable DianeV has stepped down as a moderator because her successful business made it impossible for her to spend the time anymore. Of all the reasons to lose a moderator, that’s the best. Best wishes, Diane, and thank you for all the help you’ve given for so long.

In other moderator news, Tam’s famous. “It is really exciting and very cool. I’m trying not to jump up and down to much so as not to disturb the butterflies.” (I liked Domokun’s comment: “a link from the BBC - that’s what dreams are made of”.)

And this thread– I loved this thread. This is what makes Cre8asite my favorite place. (Not just the fact that I’m its logo.) This person asked for advice and wound up with a wonderful primer on Internet marketing. Might do you all good to review the basics like this, because they’re brilliant. “Just takes time and patience. Each and every one of us were where you are at one point. And none of us woke up one morning and found we were suddenly, magically, good at what we do - despite how the stories go.”

I’m at risk of getting mushy about how much I love this place, so I’m going to go and do something sarcastic to my poor sister to take my mind off things. I’ll see you all later in the week.

Signing off (for now),

Peabody
