There have been some interesting recent posts on the web about a new type of advertising for web sites and blogs.
The latest I’ve seen is over at Seth Godin’s blog, where he discusses upside down advertising.
Imagine that ads can be plucked off sites and placed on your blog, or web site, or email, and that you can choose what you want to advertise. That is, as long as your use follows the rules attached to the ad, and the account connected to the ad has money to pay you for clicks on the ad.
Contextual Advertising is the popular thing these days. But I think this is much better. Allowing bloggers and other publishers to choose their own ads in this manner would permit people willing to search for ads to be much happier with the idea of advertising.
I’m not sure that I agree with Seth that I like a non-anonymous net. I don’t know if his suggestion to pay more for a higher ranked viewer would work,or if we would want it to. But, these ads could be primarily “click-through” and should be easy to track.
Sounds like an idea worth pursuing.
