Thread pick: Cre8ing Controversy
This fabulous discussion is full of good ideas and real sharing. It has a life of its own that keeps coming around to a desire to do more, to contribute beyond forum discussion.
Recently, cre8pc (Kim Krause Berg) mused, “I’m learning over time that there’s a mask people often use when they write and converse on the web. There’s an image they want to project, or a fear of trusting the reader/listener, or other various reasons for presenting ourselves. It can be as simple as wanting to remain professional or creating a character and being in that role when being online.”
I believe we need to take off our forum discussion personas before we can do more as a real-world community. As John Scott said, “It’s hard to connect to a persona.“
How can this discussion become an active project?
We could start by fundraising for a cause, in a way that’d get us in the game while having some fun. Ellen Degeneres has done wonders for charity with her auction projects, but not without putting herself on the line. What can we come up with?
What about something a little nutty involving lederhosen? Tangara’s not the only one who’d pay to see send2paul in lederhosen.
I don’t have any lederhosen pics, or any mug shots to label, “link bait” and put on a Tshirt. I do have a few of me in elementary school, my late 70’s high school yearbooks just surfaced, and if lederhosen will be the magic ingredient I’ll dare to be there. Is there potential here?
I’d wear the right linkbait T just for fun, and especially for a good cause. Who else is game?
Cafepress could do the printing, we could do the production. Images could be kept under wraps until the last minute. We could do any number of things. There are many ways to sell a statement.
The goals don’t have to be big to be meaningful. We could buy a washing machine for a women’s shelter, or fund a printer with ink and paper for someplace that keeps kids in school or helps dropouts revive interest learning. I know of a new school for blind and partially sighted kids that’s on dial-up until they can afford broadband. There are many places to help.
Two important ingredients for a first project are clear, reachable goals and team-building. The next project could include figuring out how to coordinate our efforts as professionals.
Come on in, join the discussion and get Cre8tive.
