Here are some of our favorite threads of this week.
- Portfolio Site “intro Spiel” - Where To Find Concrete Advice On What To Say And How To Say It?
I know I need to have some kind of “intro spiel” on my first page, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what to say. I don’t even know where to start. It’s hitting me the same way as having to write a cover page for a resume.
- When Not To Optimise, When the tail is longer than the headIn it, Graham (fisicx) wonders if aiming solely for the big keywords deprives you of a long tail. The achieved concensus seems to be that you need to both aim for the two word phrases, but also remember about the long tail and provide content for it too (possibly in the article in subsections with subheadings, etc). Thus you’ll get traffic both for the big keyword (if you have a strong site or a promoted page), the tail of the big keyword and another tail that grows on related topics (IE ‘wide screen scroll problem IE’, rather than ‘browser problems’). (Suggested by Forums Member Yura Filimonov of ImprovetheWeb.com)
Actually, you now have to optimise for both things. The head and the tail.

- Promoting A Large Number Of Websites, How can I get freelancers to help with this?
This insightful discussion looks at how freelance writers can help with organic SEO efforts.I’m a little averse to PPC as we don’t have a bottomless pit of cash, and I’d sooner work on longer term methods of doing well in the natural SERPs rather than just paying for short term rewards. Since many of our existing freelancers are now ‘running out’ of work with us, I am keen to find ways in which their time and skills could be used to help promote these sites.
Any suggestions on how to get traffic to such a large number of sites via organic search?

“There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is realm as vast as space, and as timeless, as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow; between science and superstition; and it lies between the pit of man’s fear, and the summit of his knowledge. These are dimensions of the imagination… it is an area which we call… The TicketMaster Zone.”
