I was alerted the other day about a way to customize the WP Greetbox to be used for targeted ad placement by the author of Turn WP Greet Box Into Your Own Targeted Ad Program.
I decided to take a look and ended up adding it to mine and a client’s blog. I didn’t customize for ad placement but did mess around with settings to create custom greetings. For some reason, I couldn’t get it to render properly on my blog but it worked gracefully on my client’s site. Both are Thesis themes. I removed mine until I have time to figure out what happened.
However, for WordPress users, this could be a nice way to remind your readers to subscribe to your blog, especially if your site is new. The greet box automatically “knows” the referring URL, so if your reader arrives from a link in Twitter, the greeting may say, “Hello Twitter friend….” and invite them do subscribe.
It’s free. Thought you might like to try it too.

As a user of Drupal, I find it bittersweet when I hear people talk about their Wordpress success. I wonder if they’re ultimately more similar than what I think.
