As part of our ongoing look at the world around us and our contributions to it as web site developers, a new topic was started in Cre8asiteforums called In What Ways Can You Contribute To A World Of “Better Websites For A Better World”?
We’d like to explore your impressions and thoughts on what you’ve learned over the years. Do you think that your company is interested in contributing something positive to the world with its products or services?
Is there talk of being more consciously aware in development and if so, how/where/where/what/why?

In keeping with our passion for “Building Better Web Sites Together, For A Better World”, Cre8asiteforums has launched its second new forum today. This one is called Cre8tive Tomorrow and is sure to be “geek heaven”.
Our moderator, Pierre Far, leads the way on this journey. He writes,
Only a few short years ago, very few people have heard of AJAX and the promise it brought with it. In the time between its inception and wide-spread adoption, we saw many great failures and many great examples of how to implement AJAX. It seems that the trajectory AJAX followed was filled with more trials and errors than simple successes.

The first of several new projects for 2008 has begun at Cre8asiteforums. Our new tagline, posted late last year, is “Building Better Web Sites Together, For A Better World”. While most online forums in the search engine marketing and web development space are focused on support and teaching, we decided to take it up a notch to explore “Why” our roles and practices are important.
Today, Bill Slawski starts off with one of our new forums. This one will explore non-profits. We want to learn how they market themselves. What issues do they face in search engines, marketing, branding, competition, credibility? What is a non-profit site? Where do site owners network? Are there usability concerns unique to non-profit design vs profit?

An interesting discussion at Cre8asiteforums on the ethics of finding work offers some food for thought and varied opinions. Fishing For Work begins with someone’s frustration over the thousands of web sites he finds that are “awful”. He wants to contact them and offer his services.
Is this a good way to do business?
Is it ethical to approach companies without an invitation to solicit web design work because you don’t like how their web site looks or performs?

Granted, the story originated with one person’s view of what happened, but it sounded so juicy it was impossible to ignore.
Cre8asiteforums members, who weren’t there, had much fun imagining what it may have been like when Google’s Matt Cutt’s appeared at a session on paid links at Pubcon and, by some witness accounts, cast an evil spell on the panelists.
Matt Cutts Shows Up, Panelists Freeze
It is a tale of excitement and woe, of secret handshakes and loose lips, the drama of good and evil writ large and played out on the seminar floor…

The art of blogging still exists but finding truly creative, original blogs can take time. Sometimes blog writers themselves look at the “blogscape” and wonder why they even bother anymore. If a blogger writes from the heart, does anyone care?
When is it time to stop writing? Where do you get ideas to keep on going? How many posts is too much or not enough? Is there a reason for producing blogs other than being placeholders for ads or self promotion? Do people get any personal satisfaction from reading certain blogs?
Did marketing remove artistic expression?

What do you tell your client when they approach you for web site search engine marketing and their entire web site is built in Flash? Do you talk to them about usability and accessibility issues? Do clients listen to your advice? If they have a Flash introduction page, do you let that slide? Are there some forms of Flash that are more flexible than others?
A Cre8asiteforums thread explores this common experience in Your Client Insists On Flash - What Do You Do?
Two weeks later and the discussion is still going strong. It contains stories, references and examples.
